Patrician High School host Basketball Play Offs

The Patrician hosted the All-Ireland U16 B Girls and Boys League play offs on Saturday last 13th February in the Phoenix Centre, Carrickmacross. Where the U16 Boys schools taking part were Patrician High School; Our Lady's, Castleblayney and St. Mary's, Portlaoise. In the U16 Girls were Our Lady's Castleblayney; Holy Family, Newbridge and Ursuline, Thurles.

The U16 Boys

First game on saw Patrician Boys taking on local rivals Our Lady's, Castleblayney at 10.30am. The Patrician boys from the start were to strong for Our Lady's with all the squad getting plenty of court time.
With us coming out convincing winners, the score finisheing 40 - 22.
Scorers: K. O'Hanlon, K. Rudden, B. Campion, N. Loughman, P. Linden, L. Capaldi and R. Thornton. The boys had a great rest before their next game.

Our Lady's then had the task of picking themselves back up to play St. Mary's, Portlaoise. But St. Mary's were again tough opponents of Our Lady's and won 48 - 28.

It then was up to the host Patrician High School to take on St. Marys and this was to prove a nail biting & quality match. From the warm up proved tensions were high and both teams knew what was at stake. From the throw up of the Referee the Portlaoise side put to the Carrickmacross side and the locals were to battle hard. First two quaters saw Patrician down 23 - 26 and fouls for both sides adding up. Both B. Campion & D. Ogle had four fouls each and had to take time out. With a rejig of the team was quick and forceful. P. Linden & K. Rudden came in and both settled into the task ahead.In the last two quaters saw patience was the key and the passing was crucial. A. Lynch & K. O'Hanlon were key with the offence and N. Loughman, D. Ogle, B. Campion, P. Linden and K. Rudden on defense worked hard.
The final whistle blew and Patrician High School came out on top and the sigh of relief from team & supporters was heard around the court. Final score Patrician High School 49 - 40 St. Mary's Portlaoise.
