Chess has become a large part of the extra curricular programme in the High School since 2000, when a 1st Yr competiton was begun. Since then, the school has gone from strength to strength, twice being Ulster Champions, and once winning the Drogheda Concentrates in 2006.

1st Yr Chess

This takes place in R4 every Monday at 12:25. Chess clocks are used so that the games last no longer than 30 minutes. This gives time for lunch afterwards. Training is given to students who cannot play. The students are then split into groups and play each other twice on a league basis. The top two from each group then progress to the knock-out stages of the competition. There are great cash prizes on offer to the top four students.

The Drogheda Concentrates Schools League 2007/08

This competiton consists of six teams from Louth/ Monaghan/ Meath who play each other on a league basis. Last year (2005-2006) we became the first team outside Leinster to ever win this prestigious event. There are eight players on each team.
